The Berlin-based indie rock band Velocity 9 was founded in late 2016. The trio set out to write songs that resonate just as strongly in quiet, reflective moments as they do on a wild, high-energy stage. Their classic rock trio line-up forms the powerful foundation of a 90s-influenced sound, expanded through subtle sonic textures and unexpected shifts in arrangement. Thoughtful lyrics explore personal experiences, political observations, and the digital unease of the 2020s.
Their current EP Spectators captures a world slowly coming apart. Between emotional distance and quiet tension, it reflects the feeling of standing still while everything else begins to collapse — structures, identities, certainty. Circling thoughts turn into inner labyrinths, while the outside world drifts further out of control.
Musically, the band blends melodic 90s grunge with power pop and indie, balancing bright, infectious melodies with a raw edge, while their punk rock roots remain present beneath the surface.
